They also may receive an error message about an illegal system DLL relocation. The problem stems from files having conflicting base addresses, according to the Microsoft advisory.Microsoft releases emergency patch Microsoft has rushed out a new CRITICAL security update that impacts Windows and Internet Explorer. Vista Expert: Why I Don't Like Vista For more than a year, I poked and prodded my way through hundreds of Windows Vista menus and dialog boxes. But after I finished writing ?Windows Vista For Dummies? and ?Upgrading and Fixing PCs For Dummies,? I turned off my Vista PC. Windows user spends 30 Days with Windows Vista: ?It?s a lemon, an unstable operating system? "It's a lemon... Based on my personal experiences with Vista over a 30 day period, I found it to be a dangerously unstable operating system, which has caused me to lose data. The 64-bit version is slightly better (which, frankly, surprised the hell out of us and makes us wonder if Microsoft didn't make a mistake in choosing to only distribute Home Premium 32-bit in the retail channel), but it still has stability problems." 'Vista Ready' - The biggest con in IT? Most of the products displayed will work with Vista anyways. Granted, software and some hardware like graphic cards can and should be classified as Vista Ready. Monitors? No. CD burners? Absolutely not. Webcams? I don?t think so. Mice and keyboards? Unlikely. NVidia Vista = BSOD In what seems to be an ongoing, painful battle, Nvidia is still lagging heavily on driver support for the new shiny Vista OS. Microsoft sued over Windows Vista marketing A lawsuit alleges that Microsoft Corp. engaged in deceptive practices by letting PC makers promote computers as "Windows Vista Capable" even if they couldn't run the new operating system's "signature" features.

| Software: Uninstalling Vista ... |
Vista is no panacea for security
Symantec has issued a report on the state of security within Microsoft's
flagship operating system Vista, claiming that the platform is far from the
panacea for all security ills that many had hoped.
The security company said that Vista's new plumage has been mainly plucked
from the open-source community, rather than being new security developments in
themselves.
Falling into the Vista trap
Microsoft promises to wow people who are upgrading from Windows XP to its new
operating system, but with the joys of Windows Vista comes plenty of pain.

| Software: Don't downgrade to Vista | Windows Genuine Advantage's newest setting: "you might be a pirate" Windows Genuine Advantage is an anti-piracy tool loathed by many, tolerated by some, and even appreciated by others. How you feel about it may depend in part on whether or not you've been caught in its snares: the "authentic software" validation tool is known to have falsely identified thousands of "pirated" Vista installs. To Microsoft: Trust me, nobody is pirating Vista. Who would WANT to.Consumer Vista support slashed by Microsoft Even 'critical' updates will stop in five years Looks like Vista will go the way of Windows ME. Here today, gone tomorrow. Don't downgrade to Vista Microsoft is using the catchphrase "The 'Wow' starts now" to market Vista, their new operating system. There is, however, nothing awe-inspiring about this software. In fact, it's more likely to elicit emotions that range from anger to revulsion. There is no need to "upgrade" to Vista, no matter how much Microsoft or other salesmen would like you to think the contrary. Installing Vista on any machine that you own, or purchasing one with it pre-installed, is costly, detrimental to your freedoms and, most importantly, completely unnecessary. If you're thinking about getting Vista, I have three (loud) words for you: DON'T DO IT! Windows XP vs Vista Overall performance is slower with Vista. Boxed Vista not as popular as XP - study The market research company's data showed the number of copies of Vista purchased was nearly 59 per cent less than the number for its predecessor XP. Demand for the pirate copies is also way down! :) New computer virus attacks biz networks Your anti-virus software needs anti-virus software. Windows Vista: I?m Breaking up with You I stand by my original assertion that the shipping version of this OS is late beta, at best. I realize that other enthusiasts are leaving Windows altogether (and leaping instead to Apple?s OS X), but there?s not yet enough momentum behind my willingness to do that. I?ll leave the installs of Vista 32 and 64 on this PC, but I?ll spend most (if not all) of my time back in tried-and-true Windows XP. Yet another tale of Vista upgrade woe Installing windows vista relinked as reader request.
